Fact

“Suicide is the 3rd most common cause of death among people ages 15-24.”

More teens kill themselves than die of cancer or heart disease. Which makes suicide practically an epidemic among people your age. “

Church Belief

The Church strongly opposes any form of suicide or harm to oneself. The Catholic community attempts to reach out to those who contemplate suicide. Organizations, such as the yellow ribbon organization, are established in order to help teens be aware and the educated on the matter. Everyone is responsible for his or her life, as declared by the Church, so that means that person who is contemplating the act is responsible for taking care of it. The person alone must be the one to ask for help because no one will help him if he does not ask for it and admit he has problems. We are stewards, not owners, of the life that God had entrusted to us. Therefore it is not ours to dispose of.

Suicide contradicts our purpose in life, which is to preserve and perpetuate life. Committing suicide goes against the love you are meant to have for yourself and goes against the love of God. The person breaks the bond between themselves and God. God is always there for us and it is only a simple matter of asking for help. Responsibility for one committing suicide can diminish from grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardships, sufferings, or torture.

The Church believes that we should continue to always pray for those to who have taken their own life. For there might be a chance that God may offer a way of salutary repentance for the person who has done it. It is important to look different towards others for any reason, all life must be respected.

  1. I strongly believe with the church's view of teen suicide and i think it should be opposed and looked down upon. I like the fact that the church does make groups and associations that are dedicated to teen suicide for teens to get help. If you or someone you know if contemplating suicide I think that you should try and join one of these organizations to get help because your life is important.

I agree that everyone is responsible for their own life but i do not agree that person who is contemplating suicide is responsible for taking care of it and that the person alone must be the one to ask for help because no one will help him if he does not ask for it and admit he has problems. I think that if we aware of the signs and if we notice someone with a problem that we should help them as much as we can.

Suicide does contradict life and it does against everything. God has given us life and we should enjoy it as much as we can and keep it sacred to us because you only do get one life to live. I believe that if someone does kill themselves that God can find it in him to forgive them and welcome them to heaven. And I do agree that all life must be respected.

  2. The Church is the truth in its convictions that suicide is wrong. It is the wrong decision that some teenagers make due to MySpace, and other social networking sites. Technology has really made it tougher to tell whether someone is being sarcastic and one takes a comment seriously. In two-thousand six a girl committed suicide over a false MySpace page that was just meant to make fun of her.

God gave all of us life, and we shouldn’t take it for granted. Many things in this life can cause thoughts of suicide, anything from medicine to arguments about anything from politics to a misunderstanding.

People should learn more about the organizations to help them help themselves. The feelings of helplessness due to depression are very overwhelming to the person experiencing them. The emotions can go on for months before friends and family figure the situation out and get help.

  3. I strongly agree with the churches stance on suicide. Not only are there ways to get through tough time, but it is never right to hurt yourself as it is. Causing harm to oneself is sin, but is also just wrong. You were put on this earth for a reason and only god can be the one to decide when it is your time to leave.
You can not only ask God for help if you are having a hard time, but there are organizations and hotlines dedicating to helping anybody, including young teens contemplating the decision. There are a lot of other options and they are all better than suicide. Everybody has tough times but it is important to talk to family and god about your problems.
Teen depression is also much more common than people think and obviously depression can lead to suicide. That is why it is important to recognize depression and to know the symptoms.

  4. I also agree with the Church's stand against suicide. We are given our lives and expected to love one another and make the fullest out of it. Suicide is the murder, which is a sin, of yourself. As Tommy had stated, we all have a purpose in life and when our time comes, God will take us to him. We have no right to take our own lives. Everyone goes through struggles in their lives, but the first option should not be suicide. The Church would be more then willing as to help a teen in need if they asked. Whether it is someone who is upset with themselves or teased by other people, God loves us and is always there watching over us.

There are also organizations and doctors you can speak to that are more then willing to assist a person having a hard time. A human life is a sacred thing, and to take it away from anyone including yourself is a sin. Before someone even has a thought of harming themselves, please just sit and pray to God, He loves us and will always listen to what you have to say.
