Teen suicide is a very serious problem that continues to increasingly grow with each passing year. Thousands of teens fall victim to suicide each year and the lives of many to become shattered. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among age group between fifteen and twenty-four and it is the sixth leading cause of death between the age group of five to fourteen years old. It is clear that the chances of suicide drastically increase when children reach adolescence.
The cause of suicide in teens range from dozens of different factors. Teens are pressured on daily basis, for some the pressure is too great. Some of the pressures include the pressure of becoming the best or succeeding in life, confusion, and many others. Stress is the main cause, for all pressures cause great stress and the young mind of a teen does not know how to deal with such stress. Many do not realize the stress that teens are burdened with in today's day and age. Especially with the financial crisis that exists in the world today, it just continues to add onto the burden. The media also plays a big role. The views the media has on a certain individual can increase the risk of suicide.
Not only does teen suicide harm the individual attempting it, but it also harms everyone around them. Whether it is a close family member or a new friend, everyone is affected in some way even if they fail to realize it. All teens should be educated on the risks that follow suicide. They must know that it does not fix anything, but only causes more problems and some could be drastically life changing. The effects of teen suicide, the statistics, warning signs, and just about everything that is meant to be known about teen suicide will be discussed in later postings.

It is so true that suicide is becoming more and more in a sense popular each year. Its scary that so many teens are dying through their desire to be dead then the choice. I feel sorry for the teens that have no choice, ones who have a sickness or deadly disease and i wanna get their point of view because they must be pretty pissed when teens who have the choice to live take their lives as more of a choir to live then to be happy they are healthy and okay.
ReplyDeleteI think that maybe some teens take a lot of things that happen in their life way to seriously and everything in their lives just keeps piling on and the stress that comes from everything that in the end that is what happens, their only way out of their depression or drama going on in their lives is to just end it. And ending life is a scary thing. I know i would be terrified to just one second by living the next not...
A lot of teens also need to realize that they are not just ending pain for themselves but bringing up new pain for the people around them. Your family and friends will be feeling such a more drastic pain then you could have been feeling alive. Which most teens do not think about that when just wanting to end their lives.
"The views the media has on a certain individual can increase the risk of suicide." I can not wait to here more on the view of the media because i would have to imagine that media today must not be helping at all with teen suicide and how it must effect them into it makes me wonder so I am looking forward to that future post.
I am looking forward to everyone's later postings and their view and facts about this issue.

Teen suicide and depression are terrible things to encounter, in any teen. This can be brought on by even the smallest things. I had a friend once, who nearly went suicidal because of something that went on role-playing. Luckily my other friends and I teamed up and cheered her up. If it was not for us, I do not know what she would have done.
ReplyDeleteThe media also sends out many pressures to the teenagers, be it drinking, or hanging out, or even “going all the way” with their boyfriend or girlfriend. They can turn them onto smoking and other dangerous activities. Then something could happen with grades and stuff and they don’t tell anyone, and eventually all the bottled-up emotions have to come out. If they don’t tell anyone they are basically setting themselves up for trouble.
They can also try to find a good group to hang out with.

The fact on teen suicide being the third leading cause in death amongst teens between fifteen and twenty-four is unbelievable. Teens are under stress everyday over things that seem so simply such as school, sports, and other things. As a high school student myself, I understand the pressures that come with the workload as well as preparations for college. As young students are in high school, they are pushed by many different groups or things such as wanting to become popular or getting the grades their parents push them to get. Teenagers take far too many things serious as if they are adults with full-time jobs trying to support a family of four.
ReplyDeleteHigh school appears to be the main reason for students being under so much pressure in their lives. A teenager feels as if they need to go to parties to drink or smoke to become popular and once that does not happen the world comes tumbling down.

Everybody goes through a tough and or stressful stage in their life and chances are there will be more than one. However, is it important for teens to remember that they are not the only ones going through a stressful time and if they keep working at it things will eventually get better. Suicide is never the right answer and just makes the problem worse for family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI atleast here about a local teen suicide about two times a year and i always think about if there were any signs that family or friends could have noticed. I cant even imagine what was going through the teens heads.
However, suicide is somewhat of a selfish decision. Everybody goes through tough times in their lives and it is important to get through it because that is a part of life. They were obviously not thinking about their friends and family when they made the decision; they were probably not thinking at all. On the other hand, it is important to recognize signs and help people who are going through a tough time and that could help eliminate the problem.
