Fact

“Suicide is the 3rd most common cause of death among people ages 15-24.”

More teens kill themselves than die of cancer or heart disease. Which makes suicide practically an epidemic among people your age. “

Who is Effected by Teen Suicide

Teenagers who contemplate whether or not to commit suicide do not truly understand that their actions effect everyone around them. The shock and grief of teenage suicides can forever change friends, family, and even the community. Teenagers who suffer from depression feel as if they are alone and that nobody can help them with the stress that they are going through, but they are greatly mistaken. As a high school student I understand the stresses that come with it. The work, the sports, the friends, everything. I feel as if I need to preform to the best of my abilities to make my parents and family proud of everything that I do and have become.

Teenagers that feel the same or feel rejected do not understand that there families are already proud of them and what they have accomplished. Teenagers who feel rejected by the world need to realize that suicide is not the answer to these feelings. Teens who attempt to commit suicide say that do it to escape a situation that seems almost impossible to get around or escape from feelings that make them feel bad of full of grief. Others say they do it because they are angry, sad or feel guilty about their actions.

We all feel overwhelmed at points in our life, but there are people in this world that can help us feel better such as your family. Parents do not understand why their children do such a thing, how they could have prevented it or even if they were the reason.

  1. Parents should teach their children that they are not alone in their troubles and that they went through similar experiences when they were young. The parents need to tell their kids that they are proud of them no matter what.

Self-esteem is very important in preventing teen suicides. Parents should keep on encouraging their kids that they are important, despite what they or their child might think. They can also praise them when they do well, and discipline them when they are bad. Good discipline can also help in the child’s character, as they will need to eventually be independent when they are older.

Parents need to talk to their children about what is going on in their lives, at school and elsewhere. Parents need to know what is going on in their child’s mind and they need to know how they can help to prevent an unfortunate accident from happening.

  2. If a teen is committing suicide because of their parents, I do not think that they are going to take into consideration their parents feelings because it is because of them. So what is going through their mind is not leaving their family behind in a bad way but more in a good way so they can be away from their cause of depression.

If the teen also does not have many friends, which could be the reason of the suicide, he is not thinking about the effect it will have on them because their the reason its happening.

Teens are not thinking about others when committing suicide they are thinking about their escape from everything.

Considering there cause of suicide, some may not really care on who they are hurting because there hurt may be far worse.

  3. It is true that not only a teen’s suicide, but any suicide has an affect on other people besides them. That is why I honestly believe that suicide is somewhat of a selfish decision because the person is not thinking about the people who care about him, or god. However, I have never been in a situation that tough where I had even thought about it, therefore I should not be one to talk until I have walked in their shoes. On the other hand, suicide is the wrong decision and there is always a way to work out of a tough situation. If you try hard enough and with god by your side happiness is actually easy to achieve. People don’t realize how important they are to other people. It’s important to let the people who are important to you how much you do care about them because not only can it make someone’s day, but it can also lead them out of the ugly road of depression.
